Diego Labat

President of the Central Bank of Uruguay

Economist and Public Accountant at the University of the Republic (UDELAR), with specializations in Business Management and Economics. He has more than twenty years of experience in the financial system in International Banks of recognized prestige in the country and abroad.

Teacher for almost two decades at the University of the Republic and Private Universities.

Since 2001 he was General Accountant and responsible for the financial information of ABN AMRO Uruguay and member of the Management Team. On behalf of the Bank, he was a member of the Committee of Accountants of the Uruguayan Association of Banks. Among other responsibilities, he was assigned the reorganization of the Bank's financial information areas in Venezuela.

In 2008, Banco Santander acquired the Uruguayan branch of ABN AMRO, in what has been the largest merger of two Private Banks in Uruguay, where it actively participates in a successful process and in which it is assigned the position of Accountant General of the merged Bank.

In 2012 he was appointed Financial Director of Santander and a member of the Bank's Management Committee. As such, it acted in important securities issues such as the first Public-Private Participation project for the construction of the Punta de Rieles Prison and the reissue of the Uruguay 2050 sovereign bond, among others. He was director of BEVSA, Electronic Stock Exchange and member of the Assets and Liabilities of Zurich Santander Seguros.

In May 2015, he was appointed as Director of the state oil company ANCAP, subsequently forming part of the Boards of several subsidiaries such as DUCSA, ALUR, Cementos del Plata, CABA and Gas Sayago.

On March 4, 2020, he is appointed to the Board of the Central Bank of Uruguay as President.

Diego is 50 years old, married and has 4 children of 27, 25, 21 and 13 years old.
